Clijsters rolls into U.S. Open fourth round

09/03/2010 - Flushing Meadows, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Defending champion Kim Clijsters was a third-round winner Friday at the U.S. Open.

The second-seeded Belgian dropped the first three games of her match against 27th-seeded Czech Petra Kvitova, but wound up taking the final 12 games to complete a 6-3, 6-0 victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Clijsters, who has won 17 straight matches at Flushing Meadows, is aiming to become the first woman to successfully defend her U.S. Open crown since Venus Williams in 2001.

The third-seeded Williams will open the night session against Luxembourg's Mandy Minella.

French Open champ Francesca Schiavone of Italy is also slated to play Friday against Alona Bondarenko of the Ukraine.

Earlier winners Friday included Samantha Stosur of Australia and Russia's Elena Dementieva.

The fifth-seeded Stosur thumped Italy's Sara Errani, 6-2, 6-3, while the 12th- seeded Dementieva was a 7-5, 6-2 winner over Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova. Stosur and Dementieva will meet in the fourth round.

American Idol Betting Odds: Season 6  

The online gambling websites are in the process of deciphering each American Idol contestant and his or her chances of winning Season 6 to come up with the early American Idol betting lines.

"Blake Lewis should go far because of his uniqueness and looks.  He's the boy next store with a twist - he beat boxes.  But on top of this, he's a great singer, and I adore him," Payton O'Brien relayed.

A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”

Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes. 

"I love the fact that there is a Korean American on the show and he is bound to get more Asians tuning into the show," Woo said from her Miami Beach estate.  "There has never been a major presence of Asian-Americans on American Idol in the past.  He's a hottie with a nice voice so that should help to take him far.  Expect heavy betting action from the Asian community."
